Richmond’s Seniors Celebrate Vaisakhi
24 April 2008Richmond, BC – Come out and immerse yourself in colourful festivities at Richmond’s Vaisakhi Celebration. Cambie and South Arm Community Centres are pleased to present this cultural event, which marks the first time the seniors’ community in Richmond will come together in celebration of this festival.
“We are very excited about this special event,” says Linda Simpson, Seniors Coordinator at Cambie Community Centre. “It provides opportunities for seniors to learn more about the Indo-Canadian culture and to celebrate our cultural richness.”
“We have a great event planned, with Bhangra dancing, Henna hand painting and drum performances,” says Stella Au, Seniors Coordinator at South Arm Community Centre. “There will also be Chai tea, refreshments, a best sari contest and lots of fabulous draw prizes.”
Vaisakhi occurs annually in mid-April and marks the beginning of a new solar year and the start of a new harvest season in the Indo-Canadian culture. Historically, it has been a joyous occasion and a great time for celebration.
