Richmond Olympic Oval Launches New Website and Announces Initial Programming for 2009

16 December 2008

The Richmond Olympic Oval officially launched its new website – www.RichmondOval.ca – during its opening celebrations on December 12, 2008 and announced its initial programming for toddlers to adults for the period starting January 5 until February 25, 2009.

“People are going to be surprised by the breadth and innovation of our programming,” said Krista Popowych, Manager of Programs and Services. “With over 6,000 square feet of the most advanced fitness equipment on our open-air mezzanine level - overlooking our speed skating oval - plus three dynamic fitness studios and a high energy staff, our members and drop-in clients are going to have a lot of fun experiencing our wide range of programming options.”

Public skating times are available daily and are free until December 21, 2008. Drop-in rates take effect thereafter. Most days have a lunch-time and evening free skate. A schedule is available on the website. During this free period, the public will also have access to the mezzanine and studio fitness equipment for the entirety of the Oval’s operating hours.

Skating lessons begin January 5 for pre-school (ages 3-5), children and youth (ages 6-17) and adults. Classes are 30-minutes each and run either Monday or Thursday evenings. Each class is taught by a trained instructor and costs up to $8.00 per session for 7 sessions. Cost of skate and helmet rentals are extra.

The Richmond Olympic Oval’s Winter Drop-In Fitness Schedule begins January 12, 2009 and features 19 different classes. Some highlights include Row and Ride, an indoor rowing and riding non-impact cardiovascular routine in front of the Oval’s Interactive Wall featuring 16 giant plasma TV screens. For those needing a quick 30-minute lunch-time workout, the Oval offers three, including Cycling Express, Six-Pack Abs and Rowing Express on Monday, Wednesday and Friday respectively. Each workout begins at 12:15 p.m. All classes are available for purchase at the Oval’s drop-in rates.

All programming information is available on the Oval’s newly launched website – www.RichmondOval.ca – including additional info on Upcoming News & Events, Olympic Venue and Venue City information, additional Programs & Services, Hours of Operations, Directions and Parking. The website also offers the ability to purchase memberships and gift certificates online, including the Oval’s introductory offer of 60 Days for $60 available only until February 25, 2009. Gift certificates are available in $25, $50 and $100 denominations.

The launch of the website represents another key milestone in the opening of the Richmond Olympic Oval to the public. “The Richmond Olympic Oval is the premier venue of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games,” says John Mills, General Manager. “And while we are home to a landmark long track speed skating oval, we also offer a wide range of innovative and fun fitness programs for all ages on our ice, courts and advanced fitness studios. We are very excited to invite the public into our extraordinary building and onto our new website.”

Drop-in rates begin Monday, December 22 at a reduced rate of $8 for adults until January 4, 2009. The regular drop-in rate of $12.50 starts on January 5, 2009.
