Richmond Oval Launches Special Program for Students

03 November 2008

Lace up your skates and be one of the first to glide on the ice inside the premier venue of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The Richmond Olympic Oval will be offering an extraordinary opportunity to all schools in the City of Richmond.

The Oval Kids School Program will provide an in-depth experience at the Oval. Students will receive a personal tour of the inside and outside of the building, along with information on the facility’s sustainability features, public art, programs and services and other interesting facts. Each tour group will then be given an opportunity to skate on the 400-metre Oval track. Parents are welcome to accompany their children and join in on the fun.

The program will run from January 5 to February 25, 2009 with sessions available Monday to Thursday, free of charge. Multiple groups will be accommodated into two time slots: 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or Noon to 1:30 p.m.

Each group will receive a class picture of their Olympic Oval experience as a souvenir.

Space is limited, therefore registration is required and will be on a first come, first serve basis. Registration begins today – Monday, November 3, 2008.

For schools who cannot be accommodated in January or February, the Oval Kids School Program will be offered again in Fall 2009. At that time, the program will also be available to other schools in the Lower Mainland.

School principals or teachers must provide and rank three different date and time choices for each group of students they are registering for this special event. For more information or to book the ultimate Oval experience, please contact Mike Edwards at 604-247-4903.

*Please note, this program is now fully booked. Please check for new session information in Fall 2009.
