Nominations Open for Richmond Municipal Election

The nomination period for the 2008 municipal election starts today (Tuesday, Sept. 30. 2008) for the positions of mayor and eight councillors for the City of Richmond and seven school trustee positions for the Richmond Board of Education.
Nominations will be received by the Chief Election Officer at Richmond City Hall, 6911 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The final day nominations will be accepted is Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, up to 4 p.m. Nominations will not be accepted after 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10. Nomination documents and candidate information packages are available from the election office weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Advance voter registration is now closed; however, anyone qualified to vote can still register immediately before voting either at one of the advance voting opportunities or on general election day.
Voting by mail ballot is available for voters who have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote by other means, or by those who expect to be absent from the city on general local voting day and at the times of all advance voting opportunities. Those who qualify to vote by mail ballot must apply to the Chief Election Officer weekdays between Friday, Oct. 24 and Friday, Nov. 14 at City Hall during regular operating hours. Mail ballots are also available on election day, November 15, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. only. Call the Election Office at 604-276-4100 to make arrangements to vote using a mail ballot.
The 2008 Richmond General Local and School elections are Saturday, Nov. 15, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Advance voting is scheduled for November 5, 6, 8, 12 and 13, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at City Hall, (6911 No. 3 Road). On general local election day, voters can find their polling station by entering their address on the city website (Elections 2008/Voter Information/Where do I vote).
