Richmond Launches New Minoru Park Walking Route
14 November 2008
Join the City of Richmond and community partners for the official launch and free guided walks of the new Minoru Park walking route, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 19, starting at 11 a.m.
The event will include prizes, free refreshments, an opportunity to try nordic pole walking and the first opportunity to pick up the new Richmond’s Walking Guide Book, a full-colour publication that showcases 14 city-wide walks and maps, six urban scavenger hunts and a walking handbook.
Meet at the large sign north of the Minoru Park playground for the opening, guided walks and gift bags and visit the sponsor booths at the Minoru Sports Pavilion (7191 Granville Avenue) for refreshments and prizes. The event runs until 1 p.m.
The walking route was made possible by a $35,000 grant from the Union of BC Municipalities Community Health Promotion Fund, along with a $5,000 grant from BC Recreation and Parks Association Active Communities program through ActNow BC and in partnership with BC Legacies Now. The program is designed to identify local walking and cycling routes and create appropriate signs and mapping, as well as increase community awareness of the trails, and helps achieve Richmond’s vision to be a livable, healthy community.
