Call to Artists - Expressions of Interest to Participate in Richmond Hospital Community Public Art Program
13 March 2008The City of Richmond Public Art Commission (RPAC) is seeking expressions of interest from artists to design, fabricate and install a site-specific community public art project, to be located at Richmond Hospital, 7000 Westminster Highway, Richmond, BC. This is the first community public art project that Richmond Hospital has undertaken.
Through consultation with staff, the Hospital has taken the initiative to create environments that are functional, beautiful and inspirational and that will assist patients, families and staff to have more healthful and pleasurable experiences while visiting or working in the Hospital. The intent of this project is to introduce a community public art project that will enhance the multiple stairwells at the Hospital, to greater or lesser degrees, and develop a sense of calm and a desire to better utilize the stairwells for physical activity.
The Richmond Community Public Art Program supports and facilitates opportunities for collaborative art projects between community groups and artists of all disciplines within the city. The program is based on the belief that communities can explore issues, ideas and concerns, voice community identity, express historical and cultural spirit, and create dialogue with the use of art.
This project is open to professional artists* of all disciplines. Artists outside Richmond may apply but no travel funding is available. Interdisciplinary and team approaches are welcome.
*The Public Art Policy defines a professional artist as a person who is critically recognized as an artist; possesses skill, training and/or experience in his or her artistic discipline; is active in and committed to his or her art practice; and has a history of public presentation.
The Program is interested in artists working in all art forms such as:
- visual arts: public art, film and video, photography, installation, multi-media and other visual art forms;
- performing arts: performance, music, dance, theatre; or
- literary arts: writing, story-telling, poetry.
