Graybar Road Pier opens Friday
September 22, 2008
Richmond residents will enjoy a new picnic area and river lookout point with the opening of the Graybar Road Pier on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008.
The pier, located at the foot of Graybar Road and Dyke Road in East Richmond, was made possible through a $165,000 contribution by Farrell Estates Ltd., a property management and development company. The wooden lookout structure on the dyke trail overlooks Don and Lion islands and provides a welcomed public space for community members who work or live in the East Richmond and Hamilton areas. It supports the City’s waterfront strategy, which was designed to capitalize on Richmond’s island geography and nature and spur community vibrancy, heritage and environmental protection and economic sustainability, while improving the quality of life for all citizens.
Everyone is invited to the opening ceremony on Friday, at 2:30 p.m., featuring a ribbon cutting ceremony by Mayor Malcom Brodie and Terry McPhail, owner of Farrell Estates Ltd.
