Internationally Renowned Musicians to Perform at Gateway Theatre
31 October 2008Under the tutelage of acclaimed pianist Eugene Skovorodnikov, the Music Encore Concert Society is bringing a top-tier line-up of classical music to Richmond’s Gateway Theatre. This series of concerts is paired with lecture recitals at the Richmond Cultural Centre, meaning music lovers will have the rare opportunity to not only experience the music of artists who have graced concert halls from Paris to New York, but get the chance to learn about classical music’s most famous composers in an informal, educational setting.
The next Gateway Theatre concert is Thursday, Nov. 13, at 8:00 p.m., and will feature Claudi Arimany and Eugene Skovorodnikov in a flute and piano duet, performing music by Mozart, Schubert, Schumann and Franck. On Saturday, Nov. 15, the pair will also give an afternoon lecture recital at the Richmond Cultural Centre. This inspiring and educational experience is suitable for children and adults.
Spaniard Claudi Arimany is considered one of the greatest flautists of his generation. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras all over the world, including the Philharmonia Virtuosi of New York, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Berliner Kammerorchester and the English Chamber Orchestra, has given concerts throughout Europe, Russia, United States, Canada, Middle East and Japan in venues as varied as New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl and Théâtre Champs Elysées. Some of his numerous recordings for labels such as Sony Classical, Delos International and Novalis have won awards. Parents might already know his music from the “Baby Needs Mozart” series.
Russian Canadian Eugene Skovorodnikov has performed in concert halls in Russia, Canada, Italy, China and Israel as a solo pianist and chamber musician as well as with symphony orchestras. He has been a juror in international piano competitions and has given master classes both in Canada and abroad. He has been a member of the Piano Faculty of the University of BC since 1991. Audiences throughout Europe, Canada, the U.S., Asia and the former Soviet Union recognize Skovorodnikov for his stylistic interpretation and his technical brilliance.
