Outdoor Skating at Garry Point
19 December 2008Mother Nature and Richmond Fire Rescue Service joined forces this week to create a natural, outdoor skating rink at Garry Point Park in Steveston. Skaters and hockey players are already taking advantage of the large, sleek surface, which should stay solid through the weekend, as the frigid temperatures continue.
The ice surface is unsupervised; use at your own risk and dress appropriately to prevent frostbite. An exciting indoor alternative, the Richmond Olympic Oval, is open for public skating. Check the Oval’s website at www.richmondoval.com for times.
Daytime temperatures are expected to rise to above freezing by Tuesday, though the long-range forecast is predicting cold temperatures and snow for New Year’s Eve.
The City of Richmond Council and all staff wish everyone a very happy holiday season.
