Seniors’ Annual Garden Party Celebrates “History of Fishing”

15 August 2008

Fish out your gear and get ready for the Old Fashioned Garden Party, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, celebrating Richmond’s rich fishing history. Organized by the City of Richmond’s Seniors’ Services and six community partners, the Party will include an afternoon of high tea, light refreshments and entertainment for older adults.

“This year’s event at Minoru Place Activity Centre’s Cultural Centre Plaza will explore the theme of ‘Celebrating Richmond’s Rich Fishing History’,” said Christine Corris-Wingfield, Community Facilities Coordinator. “The Party will pay homage to the contribution older adults have made to the Richmond fishing industry. But more importantly, we want to celebrate and highlight how special older adults are to our community.”

A live musical performance by local band, The Wheat in Barley, promises to be a special part of the Party, along with the presence of Steveston Salmon Festival Queens and Princesses from years past.

For those 55 years of age and older, prizes will be awarded for best fishing outfit, and best finery and old-fashioned hat.

Cost for the event is $6.95 per person and pre-registration is required. Register at any Richmond Community Centre or by calling 604-276-4300.
