Fall Leaves & Trimming
October 30, 2008
Help Keep your Neighbourhood Attractive and Safe
As the weather approaches and the trees drop their leaves, many of our neighbourhoods become draped in a colourful carpet of foliage. Here are a few tips to remember to make your community safe and clear of the huge piles of leaves that can generate.
Raking
- Please do not rake the leaves from your property, or City’s boulevard onto the sidewalk or street
- Please ensure your street grates (storm sewers) are clear of leaves to promote water drainage and avoid walking accidents
Composting / mulching
- Properly composted and mulched leaves provide outstanding organic matter and nutrients to the soil.
- Chopping leaves with a lawnmower speeds up their breakdown.
Curbside collection for single family dwellings
- Place leaves or trimmings in clear plastic bags or tied bundles (three feet by two feet)
- Place the bags at the curbside. Yard and garden trimmings are collected the same day as garbage collection by a separate collection truck.
