Explore 31 Sites in Richmond for Free During Doors Open Richmond, April 26 & 27
10 April 2008On Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, Richmond will host the first Doors Open event in BC. This two-day event is an opportunity for residents and visitors to explore Richmond’s unique culture and heritage for free.
“Doors Open is a popular event in communities throughout Canada and we decided to bring it to Richmond as a great way to showcase our diverse community and heritage,” explains Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “This event allows people to explore sites they either drive by everyday or never have the opportunity to visit.”
Thirty-one sites are featured including places of worship, green spaces, art galleries, artist studios, museums and a community police station. With sites located throughout Richmond, visitors can plan their route based on geography, special interest or just their curiosity.
“We are excited to open the doors of a wide variety of sites for not only Richmond residents, but visitors throughout the Lower Mainland to discover,” says Mayor Brodie. “We plan to make this an annual event, with new sites added in 2009.”
While the majority of the sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, visitors are encouraged to check the map listing for times of operation.
Doors Open site maps are available at the Richmond Arts Centre at 7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond. A complete listing of participating sites can also be found at www.richmond.ca/doorsopen.
There is no cost for sites or visitors to participate.
