Cyclists Take to the Roads During Bike to Work Week
26 May 2008Starting today, residents will likely see a few more cyclists on the roadways. Throughout the Lower Mainland, communities are taking part in Bike to Work Week, a regional initiative to promote commuter cycling.
“Richmond’s commitment to physical fitness helped earn it the reputation as Canada’s Healthiest Community,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Bike to Work Week is another great way of encouraging residents to leave their vehicles at home, and cycle to work – both for their health and the environment.”
Last year, over 200 cyclists who work in Richmond participated in Bike to Work Week. This year the City of Richmond is hoping for 500 participants.
A highlight during the week will be commuter stations that will serve as gathering places for cyclists. Three commuter stations will be set up in Richmond along cycling routes that will feature free food and beverages, free coffee at the morning stations, free bike mechanics, cycling maps and information, and prize draws.
The commuter stations will be located at the following locations:
- Crestwood Business Park: No. 6 Road and International Place next to the Bread Garden on Monday, May 26 from 6:30 - 9:00 a.m.
- Richmond City Hall: southeast corner adjacent to Granville Avenue on Tuesday, May 27 from 6:30 - 9:00 a.m.
- Flight Path Park: adjacent to Russ Baker Way on Thursday, May 29 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
