Richmond Resident Singing her Way to Stardom

July 24, 2008

Richmond, BC – Richmond residents have a rare opportunity to make a difference to the life of a very talented fellow-resident. All they have to do is tune into the CBC reality TV show, How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria, on Sunday, July 27.

Jayme Armstrong, 25, is currently one of three competitors still in the running on the CBC reality show. A straight-A graduate from Steveston Secondary School, Jayme is hoping to win the coveted role of Maria Von Trapp in the Sound of Music, which is being presented in a Toronto theatre this Fall.

Jayme has been performing since the age of five. She is a gifted singer with a great personality, excellent stage presence and a strong work ethic, all of which have earned her compliments from Musical Theatre icon, Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as his associates - the people who are responsible for the CBC competition. The opportunity to work with and learn from one of the all time greats will have a significant impact on Jayme's future in musical theatre.

The Richmond community has an opportunity to shine a spotlight on Richmond, the Gateway Theatre and its special programs that help children and youth reach their aspirations, just as they have helped Jayme.

The CBC competition is about how much the viewers like the competitors and how many votes each receive from the viewing public.

Tune-in to CBC at 8 p.m. on July 27 and vote for your favourite! The more friends and associates that vote as well (whether they live in Richmond or not), will help a young, talented performer like Jayme achieve a significant career goal!

Voting takes place for three hours after the show. You can cast up to 10 votes:

by phone: 1-866-610-3556 (no long-distance charges apply)
by email: www.cbc.ca/maria (follow the instructions on how to vote)
by text messaging: “JAYME” to 777111 (you may incur a charge, depending on your cell phone plan)

The other final contestants are Elicia MacKenzie of Surrey and Janna Polzin of Toronto. The new Maria will be announced on the finale show, July 28, at 8 p.m
