Meet Nigeria’s Imam and the Pastor

The public is invited to join the Imam Muhammad Ashafa and Reverend James Wuye, visiting from Kaduna, Nigeria, for an informal presentation and discussion about how their lessons learned might be applied in Richmond. This free event is part of the “Bridges to Community,” series designed to strengthen ties within our community, 

These two men were featured in the film The Imam & the Pastor which premiered in Richmond at City Hall in June 2007.

The presentation takes place Friday, January 18, 2008 from 7 - 9 p.m., reception to follow, at Richmond City Hall, 6911 No. 3 Road. Registration is not required, but please arrive early to ensure a seat.

A free screening of The Imam & the Pastor, a 39-minute documentary, will be shown on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Ralph Fisher Auditorium, Richmond Hospital located at 7000 Westminster Highway. For further information please call 604-244-5101.

About the presenters
Imam Muhammad Nurayn Ashafa, and Reverend James Movel Wuye, were once bitter rivals. The film, The Imam and the Pastor traces their incredible story telling how they moved from leading opposing armed militias to working together on peace-making initiatives and the reconciliation between their respective communities in Nigeria. They are now the joint directors of the Inter-Faith Mediation Centre in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria.

This event is hosted by the Richmond Intercultural Advisory Committee (RIAC), in partnership with Initiatives of Change and the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise.
