Richmond Remembers on November 11

06 November 2008

Richmond residents are invited to remember those who have served in the armed forces at the Remembrance Day Cenotaph Ceremonies and parade on Tuesday, November 11 at Richmond City Hall, 6911 No. 3 Road.

The ceremony at the Cenotaph will begin at 10:40 a.m. Mayor Malcolm Brodie will be among those placing official wreaths.

Following completion of the Cenotaph ceremonies, a parade will proceed from the Cenotaph, west on Granville Avenue past a reviewing stand near the Richmond School Board offices, where an honoured veteran will receive parade salutes. The marching units will continue westward to access Minoru Park parking lot, opposite Moffatt Road, and to Minoru Pavilion, where the parade will conclude.

The Remembrance Day parade includes the Royal Canadian Legion, Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Association members, a colour party and representation from the RCMP and cadet organizations.

Portions of No. 3 Road near City Hall will be closed for approximately two and a half hours to facilitate the event. There will be minimal temporary traffic disruption along Granville Avenue and Minoru Boulevard during the post ceremony parade.
