Richmond and Delta Students Help Celebrate BC 150th
05 February 2008
As BC marks its 150th anniversary, elementary and high school students are being asked to help bring our province’s history to life.
While the Richmond/Delta Regional Heritage Fair will be held on May 2 & 3 at the Richmond Cultural Centre, the deadline for schools and students to register for the fair is Friday, February 8. Late registrations will be considered on an individual basis. Students from Grades 1 to 11 are encouraged to use the medium of their choice to bring history to life.
“We’re tremendously excited to have the opportunity to send six students from Richmond and Delta to represent our region at the first ever Provincial Fair,” explains Alexandra Weaver, 2008 Richmond/Delta Regional Fair coordinator. “The province will be celebrating 150 years since the founding of the Colony, so what better time for BC students to come together to celebrate their common heritage?”
Six student participants from the Richmond/Delta Regional Heritage Fair will be selected to attend the all-expense paid Provincial Fair from May 29 to June 1. The fair is part of the Historica Heritage Fairs Program, which is held across Canada to help students connect with provincial and national history.
The Richmond/Delta Regional Heritage Fair is organized by the Richmond Museum and sponsored by the Historica Foundation, Ministry of Tourism, Sports and the Arts, School District 38, Britannia Shipyard, and the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise.
