Watermania Reopening Tonight
07 December 2007
Watermania in Richmond will reopen at 7:30 p.m. this evening as it has successfully met the conditions outlined in a closure order received last night from Vancouver Coastal Health.
“City engineering staff, as well as third party consultants, have confirmed corrective actions have been taken to address the issues raised in the closure order,” explains Vern Jacques, Acting Director, Recreation and Cultural Services. “To thank patrons for their patience we are offering free admission to Watermania for this evening’s swim.”
On Monday, December 3, City staff, along with the heating and air conditioning contractor, conducted a thorough inspection of the heating, air conditioning and ventilation (HVAC) system. The inspection found a hot water make up valve, which is part of the condensed water loop, was closed. In addition one of the damper actuators had failed. The valve was opened and the repair work was completed on Monday, which resulted in the HVAC system functioning properly. Indoor air quality tests conducted at Watermania this afternoon found the air quality was acceptable.
“Vancouver Coastal Health and the City of Richmond would like to remind all pool users to shower with soap and water prior to entering any pool,” says Jacques. “This helps control the chlorine levels within the pool.”
