Richmond Garbage Collection Service Will Not be Impacted by Vancouver Labour Action
20 July 2007
Residential garbage and recycling collection services in Richmond will not be impacted as a result of job action by Vancouver Civic Workers.
If job action results in the temporary closure of the Vancouver Landfill and Kent Street Transfer Station, Richmond’s waste will be re-directed by our service provider to alternate Greater Vancouver Regional District disposal facilities. This could result in garbage collection times being somewhat later than normal due to the additional traffic involved and truck backlog at the facilities. In some cases, garbage collection could be delayed to the following day.
Richmond’s garbage and recycling service provider, International Paper Industries, will mobilize additional collection vehicles as required in order to minimize any inconvenience to residents.
Regular blue box recycling service will not be impacted. As with garbage collection, yard trimmings service could be collected at later times than usual, and/or the following day if circumstances require.
Residents are requested to ensure that all garbage and recycling items are placed at curbside before 8 a.m. on regular collection day, but no earlier than 8 p.m. the night before. Please leave garbage and recycling items out for later pickup should pick up times be delayed to later in the day and/or the following day.
The City of Richmond continues to negotiate with the representatives of its unionized staff and, at this time, no disruptions to Richmond civic services are anticipated. For more information, please view the News and Events page regularly or call 604-276-4010.
