Rediscover the Shipyard
May 1, 2007
Come out for some family fun and experience a blast from the past by exploring the new exhibit “Industry on the Waterfront,” which examines the workings of Britannia Shipyard, National Historic Site, and its role in British Columbia’s industrial heritage.
The exhibit showcases the historical uses of the shipyard, carpentry shop, engine shop and machine shop that once served the fishing fleet of the Anglo British Columbia Packing Company. Each shop houses authentic machinery, tools, interpretive text and interactive demonstrations, which help recreate the different work areas and activities that took place. New photographs, new stories and new explanations will help our visitors rediscover the history of Britannia, and understand some of the complexities of a working shipyard.
Starting May 5, visitors are welcome to take guided tours of the new exhibit at Britannia Shipyard, National Historic Site, located 5180 Westwater Drive, from Tuesday to Sunday, at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Britannia is a National Historic Site dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the Shipyard and surrounding buildings as an active wooden boat centre and waterfront park.
