Richmond Encourages Residents to Help Community Win a $20,000 Makeover

29 November 2007

Join BC Hydro’s Team Power Smart by December 15, and you could help Richmond win a $20,000 Power Smart Makeover! What’s in it for you? You will save money by saving energy in your home or business.

Richmond is one of 68 cities, towns and villages served by BC Hydro who have registered to participate in the Challenge. The community that signs up the highest percentage of BC Hydro account holders by December 15, 2007, in each of the three categories - small, medium and large towns, will be eligible to win a $20,000 Power Smart makeover for one of its civic facilities.

It’s easy for residents to join Team Power Smart – log in to www.bchydro.com/powersmart and set an electricity-reduction goal of 5, 10, 15 or 20 per cent. Residents must be BC Hydro account holders to count towards Richmond’s Challenge.

To set an electricity-reduction goal, you’ll need a copy of a recent BC Hydro bill with your account number and balances and an e-mail address.

BC Hydro tells us these easy ways to save electricity:
  • 2% - use compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) in your 5 main lights
  • 7% - turn your thermostat down by 1 degree if your heating is electric
  • 12% - get rid of your second fridge
  • 13% - switch off your computer and monitor when not in use
Sign up today and tell two Richmond friends to do the same!
