Richmond Hosts First Short Track Speed Skating Competition

07 November 2007

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to come out and experience Richmond’s first ever short track speed skating competition. Volunteers and spectators are encouraged to show their support as over 150 short track speed skaters from BC and USA compete.

This competition, hosted by the local Richmond Rockets Speed Skating Club, in conjunction with the Vancouver Speed Skating Club, is being held at:

Date: Saturday, November 10, 2007
Time: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Location: Minoru Arenas
located at 7551 Minoru Gate

“We are truly delighted to hold this event in Richmond,” said Sue Spencer, President of  the BC Speed Skating Association and Past President of the Richmond Rockets club. “As venue City for the long-track speed skating competition for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Richmond embodies the spirit of the Games. We know this energy and excitement will be a part of our competition this weekend.”

Saturday’s competition will feature male and female skating competitors ranging in age from five to 50-plus. The local Rockets club will bring 20 skaters to the competition, which is a Zone 4 and 5 qualifier for the Juvenile and Junior skater for the BC Winter Games located in Kimberly, BC in February 2008.
