Celebrate the Diversity of Richmond’s Seniors June 3-9
25 May 2007
Richmond Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services will play host to a variety of events and activities for seniors during Seniors’ Week June 3 to 9, 2007.
Seniors’ Week acknowledges the diversity of seniors and helps to promote an understanding of and encourage positive attitudes towards seniors and their vital role in society. It’s an opportunity for fun, interaction and celebration intended to build stronger connections between older adults and their communities. Also, it’s a time to recognize and honour the positive contributions that seniors make in our community.

British Columbia has one of the most rapidly aging populations in Canada – the number of people over the age of 65 has been growing an average rate of two per cent over the last 10 years, almost twice the rate of the general B.C. population. In just over 20 years, older adults will make up close to one quarter of Richmond’s entire population, compared to approximately 15 percent at the present time.
