Safe Communities Day Aimed at Keeping Richmond Residents Safe
25 September 2007
This Sunday, Safe Communities Richmond (SCR) is celebrating Safe Communities Day with a number of its community partners at the Richmond Public Library Brighouse Branch. Community groups participating in the event with displays and information for the public include: RCMP, Richmond Fire-Rescue, Ambulance, Coast Guard, BC Crime Prevention, Seniors Wellness, City of Richmond, SUCCESS, Coast Capital, Blockwatch, Richmond Health Department, Emergency Social Services, Emergency Programs and Medi-Event (First Aid). Members of Richmond Fire-Rescue as well as the Tim Hortons’ cruiser will be serving up food for visitors.
"Safe Communities Richmond is dedicated to creating a safe community to live, work, and play, where everyone takes responsibility for the community's health and safety," explains Belinda Boyd of Safe Communities Richmond. "Richmond is the first city in the Lower Mainland to be designated a Safe Community by the Safe Communities Foundation of Canada. The SCR is a not-for-profit organization, one of 46 safe community coalitions covering approximately 500 geographical areas and 22% of the total Canadian population."
Safe Communities Richmond is a group of like-minded organizations and individuals committed to the reduction and elimination of injuries in our community. SCR works in partnership to bring to the community the existing groups that have education and awareness programs aimed to the promotion of safety and wellness in our community.
Join us for Safe Communities Day on Sunday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A formal launch will take place at 11:30 a.m.
