Richmond Holds Public Open House for Police Review

14 June 2007

With the goal of providing the best, most affordable police service that addresses evolving service demands in the community, the City of Richmond is conducting an extensive review to provide Council with information regarding alternative models used for policing services.

Richmond is a vibrant community undergoing very significant growth and change. To address current and future police service demands, including both volume and types of demand, the City is conducting a review to provide Council with detailed information on all models for a police service to:

  • Ensure the City has the best policing model available to meet Richmond’s specific community needs
  • Guarantee that the policing model provides cost effective policing services and local accountability
  • Ensure Richmond’s policing service reflects the changing, more urbanized nature of the community and the region.

“Public safety is something all residents should take an interest in and it is important we hear from people in our communities,” said Councillor Evelina Halsey-Brandt, Chair of the Richmond Council’s Community Safety Committee and Chair of the Police Review Steering Committee. “Council is committed to community consultation, as it’s imperative we know what our residents’ primary concerns are now and looking to the future.”

The public is invited to attend an information open house to obtain details on the review, ask questions and provide valuable feedback which will be compiled and analyzed to complete the final report to Council this fall.

The Open House / Display Board Viewing will take place:

Date: June 18 – June 22, 2007
Time: 8:15 am - 5:00 pm
