Sail into the Richmond Maritime Festival

Richmond, BC – Ahoy matey!
All those looking to connect with Richmond’s traditional relationship with the sea can celebrate at the Fourth Annual Richmond Maritime Festival from Friday, August 17 to Sunday, August 19 at the Britannia Heritage Shipyard National Historic Site.
The whole family can enjoy live performances of sea songs and shanties, and can participate in hands-on demonstrations. There will be a variety of maritime exhibits and activities, such as the Captain’s challenge scavenger hunt, remote control model boats, Spanish long boat rowing, rope making, knot tying and a Vivian engine demonstration. Many boats will be at the docks of the shipyard, including a 1930's rum-runner, historic fishing boats and classic power and sail boats.
Children can enjoy face painting, fish printing and model boat building. Interactive displays include the Fraser River Port Authority, Vancouver Port Authority, RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, Richmond Fire-Rescue, Silver Ann restoration, Coast Guard auxiliary, Transport Canada boating safety, Gulf of Georgia Cannery, Sustainable Fisheries, Maritime Carving, Water Wise, Boat Smart, Adventure Smart, Tourism Richmond and the Wall of Spirit.
The festival runs from Noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, August 17; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, August 18 to 19 at the Britannia Heritage Shipyard, located in Steveston at 5180 Westwater Drive. The festival is sponsored by the Britannia Heritage Shipyard, Fraser River Port Authority, M & M Meat Shops and the City of Richmond.
