Community Support Requested for Evacuees
23 October 2007
Since Friday’s plane crash in Richmond, a number of community groups have offered their assistance to displaced residents. The Richmond office of SUCCESS is asking for the community’s support in finding short-term accommodations for the evacuees who have no insurance and no family or friends to stay with.
This afternoon, members of the Provincial Integrated Recovery Council, Canadian Red Cross, Salvation Army and a number of community organizations will be working with the City of Richmond’s Emergency Social Services Unit to conduct needs assessment interviews for those individuals who do not have insurance and friends or family to stay with. Tomorrow, the group will meet to develop an action plan to help these residents.
To help the evacuees, anyone with a room in their home, a vacant apartment or furniture donations, is asked to call SUCCESS so they can create an inventory of available spaces in the community. SUCCESS is also accepting financial donations.
