Demolition Permit Process Changes Effective 9 October 2007
The City of Richmond’s current and past practice has been to issue demolition permits “over the counter” at time of application. Over the past years, a growing number of demolition related problems have developed, such as trees being taken down without approval during the demolition process, improper capping of the City’s storm and sanitary lines causing soil infiltration and blockage, and safety regulations not being followed. To address the above problems and to ensure adequate planning and preparation is undertaken by the applicant, the City’s Building Approvals division will be implementing administrative changes to the demolition permit process.
Effective October 9, 2007, Demolition Permits will no longer be issued at the time of application. Additional information will be requested at the time of application and reviewed by City staff prior to permit approval and permit issuance.
Further information on application requirements is available in the September 11, 2007 Bulletin, “Demolition Permits,” available at City Hall and on-line at Building Bulletins see Permits & Bulletins, Permits 39.
