The Lulu Series: Art in the City Lecture
07 February 2007
Creative City from Theory to Practice Free Lecture
Ever wonder why some cities always seem to have that special buzz, authenticity, vibrancy, edge, soul and pride? Find out how this is created by attending a free public lecture on:
Date: Thursday, February 22, 2007 Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Location: Richmond City Hall’s Council Chambers
located at 6911 No. 3 Road
Until recently, many city-builders thought those aforementioned characteristics were naturally or randomly occurring phenomena, happening outside of any planning context. But now, there is a more sophisticated understanding about the growing relationship between creativity and place and the conditions required for creativity to thrive.
Tim Jones, CEO of Artscape, will be the guest speaker. Under his direction, Artscape has grown from a Toronto-based affordable space provider into an international leader in community-led regeneration. Jones will share Artscape’s experience in translating creative city theory to practice and describe the tools and resources community builders will need in the 21st century.
