Richmond Offers Opportunity for Public to Comment on City Centre Area Plan

13 February 2007

In light of increasing development within the City of Richmond, and major projects currently underway such as the Canada Line rapid transit system and the Richmond Oval, Richmond is updating its City Centre Area Plan (CCAP) for the downtown area.

On February 12, 2007 City Council approved the CCAP Concept Plan in principle. This marks the mid-point in the CCAP 19-month update process and sets the stage for refinement of the Concept Plan and preparation of the Area Plan Bylaw and Implementation Strategy, scheduled for completion in late 2007.

“Public participation in all phases of the City Centre Area Plan update is very important,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “We’ve already held two rounds of public open houses for the first phases of the project, and are looking forward to seeing many Richmond residents and businesses come out and learn about the project and provide their input at our next open houses taking place in March.”

There are several opportunities for the public to provide feedback. City presentations to the public will take place on Tuesday, March 6, 7 – 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 10, 1 – 3 p.m., at City Hall.

Informative poster boards will be on display at City Hall, in the atrium from Thursday, March 1 – 16, weekdays 8:15 a.m. - 5 p.m., and staff will be on hand to answer questions, Saturday, March 10, 2007, noon - 4 p.m. at City Hall, in the atrium.

In addition, all the open house information boards are available on the City’s website, and the public is urged to visit the website, learn about the project and, during March, provide the City with their feedback using the on-line survey.
