Bike to Work Week - May 28 to June 3

Richmond, BC - The City of Richmond encourages workplaces across the Greater Vancouver Regional District to register to compete against each other to get their co-workers to cycle to and from work during Bike to Work Week. This is the first of an annual challenge during this special week that promotes alternative transportation and healthy living.

From May 28 to June 3, 2007, employee participation levels and kilometres commuted will be tracked. Prizes will be awarded based upon participation rates and kilometres commuted.  For more information and to register, visit http://www.vacc.bc.ca/biketowork/.

Highlight
During the week, there will be commuter stations that will be gathering places for cyclists. Two commuter stations will be set up in Richmond along cycling routes that will feature free food and beverages, free coffee (at the morning stations), free bike mechanics, cycling maps and information, and prize draws. Background
Bike to Work Week is a new regional initiative to promote commuter cycling with the goals of:

  • Encouraging new cyclists to try cycling and continue cycling after the event.
  • Helping Bike to Work Week participants learn to cycle safely and confidently in traffic.
  • Raising the profile of commuter cycling in the Lower Mainland so more people see it as a viable transportation option.
