Richmond Awarded for Making Sense of Their Dollars
01 March 2007
The City of Richmond has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for the fourth consecutive year. The award is for its 2005 annual financial report.
“Richmond is always committed to being fiscally responsible with transparent financial reporting practices,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Receiving this award for the fourth straight year definitely emphasizes that commitment and highlights the hard-work and dedication of our staff.”
The City of Richmond’s award winning report was designed, written, and economically produced, printed and bound exclusively by City staff, without using out-of-house resources.
The award, established by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, encourages municipal governments to publish high quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.
Reports are judged by impartial members of the Canadian Review Committee, to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story and to motivate people to read the report.
The 2005 annual financial report is available online or a hard copy is available by contacting Gloria Nicholson, Finance Administration at 604-276-4218.
