City Seeks Arts and Cultural Groups for Asian Heritage Month

15 January 2007

The City of Richmond's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services encourages arts and cultural groups to showcase their work and assist the City in planning events for Asian Heritage Month.

In Richmond and across the country, the Government of Canada has designated the month of May as Asian Heritage Month.  Together, the City and community groups will celebrate Pan- Asian arts and culture and explore Asian heritage and traditions.

“Recognizing and celebrating Asian Heritage Month is something that everyone in our City can be truly proud of.” says, Alan Hill, Cultural Diversity Coordinator. “Last year’s collection of celebrations was fabulous. With the involvement of many other groups, we expect that this year will be even better.”

As part of Asian Heritage Month, the City is also planning a Celebration of Drumming. This will be a day of Asian drumming and an opportunity for all drummers of whatever cultural and musical background to come together, learn from each other and create.  Drummers from all sections of the community are encouraged to come forward.

For more information about Asian Heritage Month or to express interest in taking part in the planning and celebration, please contact:
