ICBC Zero Crash Month Challenge
06 October 2006Pledge to Drive Safely Through October
Zero Crash Month is a province-wide competition organized by ICBC that challenges communities to reduce vehicle crashes and road-related harm. This October, 6,000 British Columbians will be injured in the province’s 22,000 predicted motor vehicle crashes.
These numbers are unacceptable, especially since most crashes are preventable.
During Zero Crash Month, Richmond residents are challenged to reduce the number of crashes predicted to occur in our community. The average for our city over the last five years is 86.41 crashes. That’s almost 33 more than the provincial average of 53.95!
According to ICBC statistics, the top three crash locations in Richmond are:
- 900-block Knight Street
- Bridgeport Road and Knight Street
- No. 5 Road and Steveston Highway
Richmond will be competing against 20 other municipalities for a $35,000 ICBC road safety grant and has accepted a challenge from the City of Coquitlam.
Zero Crash Month is our opportunity to come together as a province to help make our roads safer and win some great prizes.
The challenge is open to residents of all ages, including motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. For more information, navigate to the official Zero Crash Month website.
