U-ROC Awards Recognize Locals During Youth Week

In conjunction with international Youth Week occurring April 27 to May 7, 2006, The City of Richmond is hosting the popular 9th Annual U-ROC Awards to celebrate the achievements and dedication of youth, youth groups, adult mentors and youth friendly businesses within the Richmond Community.

U-ROC stands for ‘Richmond Outstanding Community’ and the Awards take place Tuesday, May 2, 2006, from 6 - 9 p.m. at Richmond City Hall.

Mayor Malcolm Brodie will be handing out the first 10 U-ROC awards.  Each youth will be called up to the front have a short bio read and shake hands with the Mayor.

These awards acknowledge and celebrate those who have made a significant contribution to youth and their community -  youth that are adding value to others in the community and are striving to be the best they can be. The award recipients have shown dedication, strength, creativity and individuality as well as compassion, caring and integrity.

The City of Richmond is dedicated to supporting the philosophy of working with youth to create safe and welcoming communities and neighbourhoods. The spirit of celebration the U-ROC Awards bring is one of the many things that contribute to making Richmond the best place in North America to raise children and youth.
