City of Richmond Re-Opens Certain Park Trails
11 August 2006
The City is pleased to announce that park trails have been reopened for public use. Select parks and trails were closed in late July of this year to protect both the public and parks from the high fire hazard conditions that existed at the time. With the change in weather conditions, the potential for fire hazards has subsided at select locations.
The following City parks and trails are open effective immediately:
- Horseshoe Trail: from Dyke Road to Steveston Hwy.
- Shell Road Trail: from Alderbridge Way to Athabasca Drive
- Richmond Nature Park: interior trails and east bog forest
- Terra Nova Natural Area Trail
The East Nature Park parking lot, located off Jacombs Way and Westminster Hwy., will continue to remain closed until further notice.
The City continues to urge all residents to be vigilant in practising fire safety during the hot and summer weather. Signs will remain posted in parks and trails stating “Fire Hazard. Use Caution.”, and the ban on outdoor burning still remains in place.
The public is urged to respect all trail and park closures put in place as a result of fire hazards.
If the public sees a brush fire, please report it immediately by calling 911. For more information, please call the Parks Department at 604-244-1208.
Please do your part in having a safe and fun summer!
