Richmond Welcomes Gemini Awards

The City of Richmond has opened its arms to welcome the 2006 Gemini Awards, which honour the best of Canadian television. The Gemini Awards are being held in Western Canada for the first time ever with the awards gala happening at Richmond’s River Rock Casino on Saturday, November 4, 2006.

“In the spirit of excellence, we want to show the participants in the Gemini Awards our outstanding hospitality, as well as showcase many of the outstanding products and services provided by our business community,” said Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie, who will be attending Saturday’s night gala award ceremony. “It’s also a great opportunity to promote our film friendly City to the leading decision makers in Canada’s film and television industry.”

The City of Richmond and a number of local business have partnered to welcome visiting Gemini Awards participants with gift bags from Bulldog Bag featuring some world class local products including truffles from Brockmann’s fine chocolates, Canaqua Bottled Water, Nature’s Path organic energy bars and granola bars, an Ocean’s seafood gift pack, Ocean Spray cranberry cocktail and craisins and tortilla chips from Que Pasa Mexican Foods. Award presenters and other VIPs will receive wines from Richmond’s Blossom Wines and Sanduz Wines.

In addition, Richmond RCMP officers in red serge will also be on hand with Entertainment Tonight Canada’s host, Cheryl Hickey to help greet guests as they arrive on the red carpet for Saturday’s gala.

The City has also partnered with Tourism Richmond as supporting sponsors for the Gemini Awards. 

Amanda Tapping of Stargate SG-1 will host the awards gala and  presenters include Evangeline Lilly (Lost), Cheryl Hickey (Entertainment Tonight)  Brent Butt (Corner Gas) Nicholas Campbell (Da Vinci’s Inquest) and Shawn Ashmore (X-Men/Terry). Entertainment will be provided by Lukas Rossi and Gilby Clarke from Rock Star Supernova. The gala will be broadcast live on Global TV at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
