Richmond Fire & Rescue Raise Funds All Summer for Habitat for Humanity

19 July 2006

Come out for a car wash and while you’re there, get your child car seat safety inspected by certified inspectors. It’s all by donation and it’s in support of Richmond Fire Rescue’s second annual car wash to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. The goal is to beat $3,200 which was raised last year for the same cause.

The car wash takes place on Saturday, July 22, 2006 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Lansdowne Mall in the northwest corner of the parking lot. The car seat inspections take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m..

One hundred percent of the funds raised will go towards Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village Program. This fall, 24 Richmond Fire Rescue members will travel with Habitat for Humanity to Thailand to build homes for those in dire need.

Last year, 24  Fire Rescue members took their vacation days and travelled to Sri Lanka to help build three houses. “It was such a rewarding experience for all of us that we are doing it again,” says Fire Fighter, Brian Coombs.

To further raise funds for the Habitat for Humanity project this fall, Richmond Firefighter will be at the Night Market every Saturday and Sunday beginning July 23 at 7 p.m. until midnight,  from now until the end of the summer selling hamburgers and freezies to raise funds for the project.  Their booth will be located  at the southeast entrance.
