City Receives Third Consecutive Financial Reporting Award

6 January 2006

For the third consecutive year, the City of Richmond has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting. The award is for its 2004 annual financial report.

The award, established by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, encourages municipal governments to publish high quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.

“The receipt of this award for the third straight year attests to the importance the City continuously places on fiscal responsibility and transparency of financial reporting,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Achieving this award is a significant accomplishment and is a reflection of our commitment to be the most well-managed city in Canada.”

The City of Richmond’s award winning report was designed, written, and economically produced, printed and bound exclusively by City staff without using out-of-house resources.

Reports are judged by impartial members of the Canadian Review Committee, to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” designed to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story and to motivate people to read the report.

The 2004 annual financial report is available online at  http://www.richmond.ca/cityhall/finance/reporting/reports.htm or a hard copy is available by contacting Nora Wright, Finance Administration at 604-276-4219.
