Family Fun Set for Richmond Public Works Open House
17 May 2006
A giant sand pile, clowns, children’s play area and other fun and informative activities for the whole family will be on tap at the annual City of Richmond Operations Yard Open House on Saturday, May 27, 2006.
It’s all in celebration of National Public Works Week and in recognition of the important services provided to the community by our civic employees.
For kids there’s a chance for some hands-on learning about the operation of heavy equipment at the wheel of excavators, dump trucks and other machinery. Kids can also learn about how water gets to the tap, learn about fire safety in Richmond Fire Rescue’s Fire Safety House, visit the children’s play area complete with its giant sand pile, have their faces painted or have fun with the clowns.
Parents are invited to visit the City’s Parks displays, take part in gardening and lawn care demonstrations, learn how to be Power Smart with tips on energy conservation and also learn how to conserve water.
The whole family will enjoy demonstrations by Richmond Fire Rescue and Richmond RCMP showing the tools and techniques they use to keep the community safe.
Kids aged 5 and under are also eligible for a free hot dog and pop for lunch, organized in part by the Boomers Team of the Richmond Girls Softball Association. To receive the free lunch, please bring the coupon from the Open House notices to be published in the Richmond News and Richmond Review between May 20 and 26.
There’s lots of other fun-filled and informative activities planned for the Open House, which runs from:
Time: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: City Operations Yard
5599 Lynas Lane (one block east of Westminster Highway and No. 2 Road)
