BC Supreme Court Upholds Pub Rezoning
26 June 2006
A petition seeking to overturn a neighbourhood pub rezoning in Richmond has been dismissed in BC Supreme Court.
The court dismissed the petition after hearing arguments on the matter on Friday, June 23, 2006. The judge also ordered that the City’s legal costs in the matter should be paid by the petitioner, Randy Craig.
The issue arose from Richmond Council’s approval of the rezoning of a site at No.5 Road and Steveston Highway to allow development of a new neighbourhood pub. The petitioner argued the City had not provided for adequate public input in approving the rezoning. However, the City maintained it followed all normal and legally-required policies and procedures in approving the rezoning, which was eventually passed in a 5-4 vote by Council.
