It’s Playtime in Richmond

28 June 2006

Children Playing in Straw at Play DayFamilies can return again this year and celebrate play, and the fun and freedom that naturally comes with it, at Richmond PlayDay on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at South Arm Park.

At Richmond PlayDay, families can get active by visiting a variety of Play Zones, including the Sand Zone, Art Zone, Games Zone, Building Zone, Nature Zone, Safety Zone and new this year for children 8 to 12 years, the Adventure Zone. In each of the zones, there will be a variety of interactive and fun activities. There will be hidden treasures, sand sculpting, games, face painting, dirt gardening, a challenging adventure course and so much more.

Last summer, PlayDay attracted more than 11,000 children and parents and this year even more families are expected to participate. PlayDay is one of many innovative programs supporting the City’s “Getting Richmond Moving” initiative and the Premier’s Challenge to increase physical activity by 20% by 2010.

“PlayDay is an opportunity for kids and their families to discover the benefits of play.” says, Howard Palliser, Event Coordinator. “It’s a day of fun and discovery for kids and just one of many ways to keep your body moving this summer.”

Richmond PlayDay runs Saturday, July 29, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at South Arm Park, 8880 Williams Road. For more information, call 604.276.4300, visit the Calendar of Events or email playday@richmond.ca.

Richmond PlayDay is presented by the City of Richmond, with support from Coast Capital, Dueck GM, Yoplait Yogurt and the Richmond Review.
