Pierrefonds Mayor to Visit Steveston Salmon Festival

28 June 2006

Mayor Monique Worth from Pierrefonds, Quebec will take part in the popular annual Steveston Salmon Festival Parade this Canada Day in Richmond.

Pierrefonds is one of Richmond’s two Sister Cities. The Cities of Richmond and Pierrefonds became twinned on July 29, 1967. The two cities pledged to promote cultural, tourist, and social and economic exchanges between their residents.

Pierrefonds was a residential City located on the north west side of the island of Montreal. It has since become amalgamated as one of the boroughs of the new City of Montreal as Pierrefonds-Roxboro. The population of Pierrefonds-Roxboro is over 60,000.

Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Pierrefonds and Roxboro and plans are being developed to mark that significant anniversary.

The Salmon Festival Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2006 in the historic village of Steveston.
