Public to Get Update on Richmond Oval Project
26 June 2006
The City of Richmond will host a Public Open House to provide an update on the Richmond Oval project from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Richmond Centre Mall.
Construction on the Richmond Oval will begin later this summer, with a scheduled completion date of 2008. In preparation for the beginning of construction, significant work has been completed on the building design, site planning and Post-Games program model. Members of the public are invited to come and learn more about the project and its community benefits.
The Richmond Oval will be the home of speed skating for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. After the Games it will become a multipurpose centre of excellence for sports and wellness.
At the open house, City staff will provide information on a wide variety of topics, including:
- general project progress;
- post-Games program model;
- building design;
- cost and construction schedule update;
- site master plan;
- Oval precinct and surrounding area public art plan; and
- Oval Public Open Space Concept Plan.
The Oval will offer a diverse array of community uses, health and wellness services and both summer and winter sports throughout the building’s three floors. Outside the Oval and in the surrounding neighbourhood an extensive network of parks, trails, public gathering places, play areas, public art and other amenities have been planned to make the area a major new destination point for both residents and visitors.
