Pirate’s Gold Spun at Richmond Maritime Festival

Richmond's traditional connections with the sea will be celebrated with a classic wooden boat show, sea shanties and much more at the 3rd Annual Richmond Maritime Festival to be held on:

Dates: Friday, August 18

12 noon- 5 p.m.

Date: Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20
Time: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Location: Britannia Shipyard National Historic Site

A highlight of the festival will be the visiting tall ship, Concordia, a 188 ft. barkentine built in 1992.  The River Queen will be available for nature and historical tours. 

The whole family can enjoy the live performances of sea songs and shanties, and can participate in hands-on demonstrations. There will be a variety of maritime exhibits and demonstrations, such as oar making, canoe building, knot tying, rope making, caulking board activity and children’s model boat building. Many boats will be at the docks of the shipyard, including a 1930's rum-runner, historic fishing boats and classic power and sail boats. 

Children can enjoy fish printing, face painting and pirate storytelling under the storytelling tree.  Displays include the Fraser River Port Authority, RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, Silver Ann Restoration, Gulf of Georgia Cannery, Richmond Carvers Society, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Water Wise, Boat Smart, Adventure Smart, Sea Dragons Sea Scouts and BC Life Saving Society.  Maritime authors from Harbour Publishing will be on hand for book signings. 

The festival runs from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, August 18; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, August 19-20, 2006 at the Britannia Heritage Shipyard, located in Steveston at 5180 Westwater Drive. The festival is sponsored by the Fraser River Port Authority, Britannia Shipyard, the Steveston Rotary Club, and M & M Meats.
