City of Richmond Closes Certain Parks and Trails Due to Hot Weather Fire Hazard

27 July 2006

Due to the fire hazard being extremely high at a number of Richmond parks and trails, today the City will temporarily close some locations to protect both the public and the area parks and public spaces.

The City is also urging all residents to be vigilant in practising fire safety during the continued hot and dry summer weather. The ban on outdoor burning also remains in place.

The following City park parking lots and trails will be closing until further notice:

  • East Nature Park parking lot: off Jacombs Way and Westminster Hwy.
  • Horseshoe Trail: from Dyke Road to Steveston Hwy.
  • Shell Road Trail: from Alderbridge Way to Athabasca Drive

The following locations are not closed, however the fire hazard is high in these areas and signs will be posted stating “Fire Hazard. Use Caution”:

  • Richmond Nature Park: interior trails and east bog forest
  • Terra Nova Natural Area Trail

The public is urged to respect all trail and park closures put in place as a result of the fire hazard.

If the public sees a brush fire, please report it immediately by calling 911. For more information, please call the Parks Department at 604-244-1208.

Please do your part and have a safe and fun summer!
