City Heritage Awards - Call for Nominations

18 January 2006

Recognizing Richmond’s heritage! That’s the purpose behind the call for nominations for Richmond’s Heritage Awards.

Richmond’s rich heritage is one of the things that makes the community such a special place – the buildings, the landscapes, the artifacts, the people and their histories – all of them rich resources of our collective past.

The annual Richmond Heritage Awards recognize the special accomplishments of individuals and organizations who have contributed to preserving and promoting Richmond’s heritage.

The City of Richmond’s Heritage Commission is calling for nominations for the 2006 Richmond Heritage Awards, to be presented during Heritage Week Display at the Richmond Cultural Centre at 6:00 p.m. on February 17, 2006.

We encourage the public to submit nominations for individuals or organizations who have enriched, or contributed, to Richmond’s heritage resources in any way. Just send the Heritage Commission a brief a one-page summary describing the role of the nominee and the scope of their contribution. Include your name, address and telephone number, as well as the name, address and telephone number of the nominee.

Some of the ways a nominee may qualify are by:

  • Restoring, rehabilitating, maintaining or adaptively re-using a heritage building, its interior or special architectural or characteristic features of a heritage building
  • Preserving or maintaining a heritage landscape
  • Promoting local heritage
  • Furthering the knowledge of Richmond’s heritage by relating our history or interpreting the past
  • Advocating heritage issues or promoting heritage awareness

There are no set criteria or limits on the nominations.

Deadline for submissions is 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6. Please submit to:

The Richmond Museum
180-7700 Minoru Gate
Richmond, B.C. V6Y 1R9.

The Awards Jury will be composed of members of the Richmond Heritage Commission and guest jurors. All decisions of the jury are final.
