Festival of Trees at City Hall

Winter Wonderland
Sights and sounds of the holiday season are wafting through Richmond City Hall as the 6th Annual Winter Wonderland festival kicked off last weekend.
Winter Wonderland, which is presented by the Richmond Sunset Rotary Club, began on Saturday, November 25, with the first of a series of community Christmas concerts in the Galleria of Richmond City Hall, located at 6911 No. 3 Road.
Six more weekend matinee performances are scheduled at the Galleria for everyone’s enjoyment. Various local community groups will entertain, during the following shows:
- December 02, 2006 starting at 1:00 p.m.
- December 02, 2006 starting at 2:30 p.m.
- December 09, 2006 starting at 1:00 p.m.
- December 09, 2006 starting at 2:30 p.m.
- December 09, 2006 starting at 3:30 p.m.
- December 16, 2006 starting at 1:00 p.m.
While the concerts are free of charge, attendees are encouraged to make monetary donations to support those groups in their ongoing operation.
In addition, 30 trees decorated by local businesses or community organizations are on display in the City Hall Galleria from now until December 31. Richmond’s Mayor and Councillors will be on hand for the official opening day “lighting” at 11 a.m. this Saturday, December 2.
Everyone is welcome to the Winter Wonderland festival to enjoy the free matinee concerts and admire the beautifully-decorated Christmas trees. The public can also cast votes for the “best-dressed” tree. Donations of non-perishable food items for the Richmond Food Bank are also encouraged.
This year, the Richmond Sunset Rotary Club is supporting four new initiatives:
- The Rick Hansen Richmond Accessibility Fund – This will provide ongoing support to improve the quality of life of those living with a spinal cord injury or other related disabilities.
- The Terra Nova Park Legacy Fund – This will provide long-term funding for the care, stewardship and protection of the Terra Nova Park in the Northwest quadrant Richmond.
- The Youth in Philanthropy Scholarships – These scholarships will assist young people to further their education in the philanthropic field and encourage them to get more involved in their community.
- The Rotary Foundation – Funds will be used to focus on the eradication of polio and lead the way with water management, literacy, health and hunger.
This year’s festival is co-sponsored by the Vancouver International Airport Authority and The Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel. Media sponsorship is provided by The Richmond Review, and the City of Richmond is a supporting partner.
