Awards Celebrate Richmond’s Green Thumbs

21 August 2006

Garden enthusiasts are invited to attend the City of Richmond’s 14th annual Landscape and Garden Contest Awards Gala at the Gateway Theatre to celebrate the achievements of the many winners of this year’s Landscape and Garden Contest.

The Gala,  being held on Tuesday, August 29 from 7 – 9 p.m., will present awards to the winners followed by an exciting multi-media presentation by keynote speaker Des Kennedy, an award-winning journalist, broadcaster, author, and environmental activist.

Kennedy’s presentation “Passionate Encounters in the Garden”, is a romantic journey examining the gardener’s passion from early infatuations through budding romance, long-term commitment, eventual infidelity, promiscuity in plant acquisitions, and then resultant decadence and decay.  His humour, irreverence, and passion for gardening and the natural world have made Kennedy a “must-see” speaker in high demand across the country.

This year’s Landscape and Garden contest featured over 90 entries in four categories - residential gardening, commercial and institutional gardening, community gardens, and alternative gardening.

Tickets for the Awards Gala are free and are available now on a first come first serve basis.  For more information or to book tickets,  please contact the City of Richmond’s Parks Division at 604-244-1208.
