May 16, 2006 is Canada Census Day
08 May 2006
Why is this important to you?
Every five years, Statistics Canada conducts a census. The next Census of Canada will take place on Tuesday, May 16, 2006. The census provides a statistical portrait of our country and its people.
In Canada, the census is the only reliable source of detailed data on our population and for areas as small as a city neighbourhood or as large as the country itself. The census is more than a population count; it provides all levels of government, business, industry, and academia with social, economic and demographic information that is essential for making decisions and forecasts regarding the many services each provides to the public. It also sheds light on issues of concern to all of us - employment, education, training, transportation, housing, immigration, income support, and many others.
It is critical to be counted! For further information, please visit the Census 2006 website at: www.census2006.ca.
